Ormsby Guitars Warranty, Returns and Refunds Policy

Ormsby Guitars is based in Perth, Western Australia, and our standard pricing is in Australian Dollars (AUD). Although we often provide approximate pricing in US Dollars (USD), we recommend checking XE.com for the most up-to-date conversion rates. Please note that prices do not include local or country taxes, duties, customs fees, or shipping charges. Our webstore accepts online payments via various payment platforms; please refer to each merchant’s user policies for their full terms and conditions.
1. Warranty, Repairs, and Returns – General Guidelines
- Direct Purchases:
If you have purchased a guitar directly from our Perth factory or through our webstore, please contact us immediately upon discovering any issues. Do not attempt any repairs on your own, as this may void your warranty and result in additional charges. - International Purchases:
If you purchased your guitar from one of our international distributors or dealers, please contact your point of purchase for any warranty, repair, or refund inquiries.
2. Warranty Coverage
2.1 Eligible Instruments and Warranty Periods
- CustomShop / Factory Custom / Perry’s Choice Instruments:
- Licensed Instruments (GTR and GTI Models):
- Used Instruments:
2.2 Warranty Coverage Statement
Our warranty guarantees that the instrument will be free from defects in materials and workmanship, subject to the limitations set forth below. This warranty is available only to the original purchaser and is non-transferable to subsequent owners.
3. Warranty Exclusions
This warranty does not cover the following:
- Any instrument that has been worked on or altered by the customer or by any unauthorized repair technician or luthier.
- Instruments with a removed or modified serial number.
- Instruments not purchased directly from Ormsby Guitars or an authorised dealer.
- Damage resulting from accidents, negligence, misuse, or improper handling.
- Shipping Damage: Any damage incurred during transit.
(See Note #1 below.) - Normal “wear and tear” including (but not limited to) color fading, discoloration, deterioration of the original finish, worn frets, worn nut, strings, tuners, hardware, or plating (including gold hardware).
- Damage due to exposure to extreme humidity, heat, temperature fluctuations, or moisture.
- Adjustments or modifications required for personal preference (e.g., string height, intonation, tuning, truss rod adjustments, pickup heights, etc.).
- Factory-installed electronics or hardware. (These items are covered by the respective manufacturer’s warranty; however, if the manufacturer’s warranty is less than 12 months, we extend coverage to one year.)
- Accessories and related merchandise, including cases, gig bags, clothing, media, certificates, tools, or other non-instrument items.
Furthermore, Ormsby Guitars disclaims any express warranties and all implied warranties to the fullest extent permitted by law.
4. Limitation of Liability
Ormsby Guitars shall not be liable for any special, indirect, consequential, incidental, or other similar damages, including without limitation loss of profits, business interruption, or any other damage resulting from the use or performance of the instrument—whether in contract or tort—even if advised of the possibility of such damages. We shall not be liable for any expenses, claims, or lawsuits arising from the issues covered above.
5. Warranty Service Process
- Fault Determination:
If your guitar malfunctions due to faulty materials or workmanship, at our sole discretion we may repair the instrument free of charge. Upon receipt at our factory, we will evaluate the defect against our warranty terms. - Repair Costs:
If the defect is covered under warranty, the repair will be performed at no cost to the original owner. If not, we will provide an estimated repair cost for your approval before proceeding. - Shipping & Insurance:
All shipping and insurance charges, including any perceived “collector” value, are the sole responsibility of the original owner/purchaser.
6. Geographic Coverage
This warranty applies to all states and territories of Australia as well as to international sales.
7. Circumstances That Void the Warranty
The warranty offer is void if:
- The instrument is submitted to an unauthorized technician for inspection or repair before contacting Ormsby Guitars.
- The customer attempts to fix an issue independently, resulting in further damage.
8. Additional Notes
- Shipping Insurance:
All instruments requiring domestic or international shipping are covered for the full declared value under the relevant shipping insurance policy. Although we strive to ensure safe transit, we cannot control how the instrument is handled while in transit. - Product Communications:
We take great pride in our workmanship and products. We request that you contact us directly with any concerns before relying on social media posts or external opinions regarding our products.
9. Estimated Production Time (ETA) and Timeline
- Production Variability:
Production times vary with each order and production run. All dates provided are approximate and subject to variations and delays related to manufacturing and delivery. - Updates:
Please refer to the individual ETA and timeline provided on the pre-order page for your specific production run. We also encourage you to join our Facebook Group to stay informed about current production progress and new model releases.
10. Shipping Information
- Worldwide Shipping:
We ship our products worldwide. For many international regions—especially China, Japan, and Europe—we recommend purchasing through our network of authorised dealers. A comprehensive list of our dealers is available on our Dealers page. - Direct Purchases:
If you wish to purchase directly from us and your region is not available through our webstore, please contact us at orders@ormsbyguitars.com.
11. Customs and Import Fees for Direct Sales
- International Customers:
We recommend purchasing through a local dealer when possible, as they handle import taxes (VAT), customs duties, and fees. - Direct International Purchases:
If you purchase directly from our Australian factory, you will be responsible for any import costs. These additional costs are often reflected in the pricing offered by our international dealers, who can also provide local support, warranty service, and parts. Ormsby Guitars is not responsible for reimbursing any import costs such as VAT or customs duties.
12. Pre-Order Changes and Cancellations
12.1 For CustomShop / Factory Custom Instruments
- Cancellation Window:
You have 7 days from the order date to cancel for a full refund. - Deposit Forfeitures:
- Non-Negotiable Terms:
Your order initiates significant administrative, scheduling, and production efforts. These terms are non-negotiable under any circumstance. By submitting an order, you agree to these conditions.
12.2 For GTR / GTI Instruments
- Cancellation Window:
You have 7 days from the order date to cancel for a full refund. - Deposit Forfeiture:
Cancellation forfeits a $350 AUD deposit, which may be applied toward future orders within 12 months. - Order Adjustments:
If you already have a current pre-order for another Ormsby GTR/GTI Series instrument and wish to change to the current production run, an administrative fee of $50 AUD applies. - Non-Negotiable Terms:
These terms are non-negotiable under any circumstance. By placing your order, you agree to these conditions.
13. In-Stock Guitar Returns Policy
If you have purchased an in-stock guitar directly from our webstore or our Reverb store and wish to return it, the following conditions apply:
- Carrier Requirements:

The instrument must be insured for its full value during return shipping. - Return Timing:
The return must be initiated within seven (7) days of the instrument’s arrival. - Restocking Fee:
A 20% restocking fee will apply. - Postage Costs:
Postage charges are non-refundable. - Factory Modifications:
If the instrument was modified at the factory at your request (e.g., pickup swaps, setup changes), additional costs may apply.
14. Wear and Tear
“Wear and tear” refers to the natural aging of an instrument due to normal use, proper audio system connection, appropriate storage, and general care. Such normal wear and tear is not covered by any warranty.
15. B-Stock Items
B-stock items are sold “as is” at a reduced price in acknowledgement of minor defects. Returns or repairs for B-stock items are not covered by Ormsby Guitars’ warranty; however, optional repair services may be available.
